2008 OSCARS - NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN BIG WINNER
Results at the Oscars were as predicted by experts where 'dark' themed movies conquered most of the awards, with No Country For Old Men leading. The movie won Achievement In Directing (Joel & Ethan Coen), Best Adapted Screenplay and ultimately the major award for Best Picture.
Javier Bardem (above-2nd from left) from the same movie also took home Best Supporting Actor, while Tilda Swinton (above-3rd from left) from Michael Clayton took Best Supporting Actress. I'm glad Daniel Day-Lewis (below-2nd from left) from There Will Be Blood won Best Actor, he's one of the best actors of all time. Marion Cotillard (below-3rd from left) from La Vie En Rose won Best Actress.
Best Original Screenplay went to Juno, Best Original Score went to Atonement, while Ratatouille won Best Animated Feature Film.

AMY WINEHOUSE & KANYE WEST WIN BIG AT 50TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARDS
AMY WINEHOUSE bags 5 awards including both Record Of The Year & Song Of The Year, but loses out on Album Of The Year. KANYE WEST, recovering from his mother's decease recently, shared the same fate of losing out on the big award, although winning 4 awards including both Solo and Duo Performance in Best Rap categories, and Best Rap Song. HERBIE HANCOCK takes everyone by surprise when he wins Album Of The Year for his album River: The Joni Letters.
Other winners include RIHANNA with her 1st Grammy for Umbrella, CARRIE UNDERWOOD bags Best Female Country Vocal Performance for Before He Cheats, Justin Timberlake wins Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, MAROON 5 takes Best Pop Vocal Performance By A Duo/Group with Makes Me Wonder, and Best Hard Rock Performance by Foo Fighters.
Some of the more memorable performances include ALICIA KEYS' opening act, singing a special duet performance with FRANK SINATRA.
ALICIA KEYS performs her winning song No One as well later that night. Hmm...not too sure about this performance as I felt her vocals was already screeching, see for yourself.
BEYONCE flashes another blast of performance that night, combining with legendary TINA TURNER. Wow, what a great combo of energy and vocals! Not to be missed.
The night's highlight was counting towards AMY WINEHOUSE's performance via satellite in London. It was somehow Amy's night, despite her recent negative publicity including jailed hubby, Blake.

ANUGERAH JUARA LAGU KE-22
Anugerah Juara Lagu for 2007 was held last Sunday 27 Jan 2008. Results were pretty good to me. New Local band ESTRANGED won the overall award for their song Itu Kamu. To me it was a good song, and it's refreshing for local bands to be able to self-compose & perform this genre of songs, and not have us relying on only bands from Indonesia for that. Kudos!
Another worth mentioning award was Best Vocals (Vokal Terbaik), taken by JACLYN VICTOR and LAH RUFFEDGE. Their rendition of Ceritera Cinta was superb. Thanks to LAH's injecting of a more R&B and interesting vocal arrangements, the song was better than the original version. Well-deserved win.
One major disappointment for me that night was MAWI winning the Best Performance category (Persembahan Terbaik), what a let-down. His performance for Angan & Sedar was pale & old-fahion, not to mention inserting a cheap gimmick of magic tricks in between (OMG). Then again this category of 50% based on public voting via SMS, what to do! I'm not an anti-MAWI, but that definitely was not an award-winning performance. A more deserving artist to win this award was DATO SITI NURHALIZA, who gave her best with DESTINASI CINTA. Although it wasn't that strong a song to be contending that night, she proved herself again to be the more consistent and seasoned artist on stage with her interesting performance for the Pop/Rock category, with exciting choreography and a grand opening during the beginning of the song.
FAISAL TAHIR's absense (disqualified after his 'shirt-off' act) wasn't felt too much, as one of his songs Kasih Tercipta was performed well by BOB AF. Very good vocals, better than FAISAL himself when performing live.
SAG AWARDS 2008
Just watched SAG Awards on telly, results are not too bad. Daniel Day-Lewis, one of my favourite actors, won Male Leading Role for his performance in There Will Be Blood. Looks like everytime this man is nominated, he will win!! Have not seen the movie yet, but I'm sure he's as equally gud as his previous performances in My Left Foot, The Age Of Innocence & In The Name Of The Father.
Julie Christie won Female Leading Role for Away From Her, which also gave her a Golden Globe earlier on. I only remember her in Harry Potter & Finding Neverland, not too sure how good an actress she is. I was rooting for Cate Blanchett to win this category though, who sadly lost both her nominations for Female Leading Role in Elizabeth:The Golden Age and Female Supporting Role in I'm Not There. Cate won a Golden Globe for her performance in I'm Not There.
No Country For Old Men took the Outstanding Performance By A Cast In A Motion Picture, looks like this movie is really good, based on what I read and seen so far. Another movie to look out for.
