Having a duet with JT is definitely some way or another "marketing" ;-)
But it's a good song, let's hope the rest of the album is good
At first listen, a couple of standout tracks, Incredible and Devil Wouldn't Recognise You (which has a very strong "Cry me a river" vibe).
Although the album doesn't have as strong a hip hop feel to all the songs as I thought it might have, but it does sound very retro and does remind the listiner of Gwen Stefani and Nelly Furtado. Hope you guys enjoy it. Definitely a grower of an album.
Watch the performace of some of her new songs and some classic at Roseland on Wednesday. Next stop, Paris!
Listening to the lyrics of "Sorry" and would you think it's lame? What about "Hung Up"? and "I Love New York"? Would you think Confessions is a lame album then when the lyrics and delivery is simple and straight forward?
I don't believe "4 Minutes" is the best song off the album, but that's probabaly a marketing choice. But I do believe that she's done some things, musically, different on this album that she's never done before, especially her part as being Executive Producer only and not being hands-on as she used to be.
I do not believe that this album is on par with American Life either because even as Madonna albums, these are two different beasts. Different points of views, musical arrangements, delivery, everything. No comparisson really.
The closets thing she's ever done which could be comparred with Hard Candy is probably Bedtime Stories, but even that's more R&B than Hip Hop.
I'm not saying I love every track on the album, I do believe there are a few which felt like fillers, but it is a good album, nothing magnificent, but definitely better than American Life.
But that's the thing about a new Madonna album, never the same and makes you use that grey lump 3 feet above your ass.
Maybe it is because she sound more current rather than musically progressive that may be the reason for your review?
actually i thought the remixed versions of a few songs in AL that appear in Remixed and Revisited LP sounded better that the original versions in the album! Haha!
When I said lame, i wasn't referring to the lyrics (hey... it's pop! :p). It's just that I thought quite a few songs didn't have a strong arrangement or melody that seem a bit out of place. I wasn't comparing AL to HC in musical/delivery terms... like you said they're both totally different. I'm merely comparing which of the two albums that appealed to me least. Maybe some songs in HC are just not my cup of tea. Just a matter of preference, dear.
M did say she prefers the remix versions of her songs, so there may be truths in what you say, but I don't think the mix of Nobody Knows Me works though, I prefer the Re-Invention Tour version.
